Security Tips |
For your home
- Trim shrubs and trees away from windows and entry doors.
- Set up security lighting around the outside of your home, especially at side and rear doors and windows. Floodlights, which offer the brightest lighting, are the best deterrent to prowlers.
- Install light timers for interior lamps when on vacation.
- Secure all entry doors with 1" or larger deadbolts.
- Install a wide-angle peephole on all entry doors.
- For the best possible security against break-ins, a quality burglar alarm is a deterrent to all but the most determined burglars.
- Have a lock for the garage door - do not rely on the automatic opener to provide security.
- Always check to make sure the sliding door is locked at night and when leaving the house.
- Advise a neighbor to remove newspapers and pick-up mail when you're on vacation.
For your Vehicle
- Never leave valuables within plain sight in your car. If you have a trunk, then lock your valuables in there.
- Park your vehicle in well-lit areas when possible.
- When on vacation, be sure to keep maps, luggage and other items that indicate you are a "tourist" out of sight. Thieves tend to look for out-of-towners as they can be easier marks.
